Kidneys are important organ in the body. Each human kidney is about 4 to 5 inches long and roughly the size of a large fist. The main function of the kidney is to filter the blood and the secondary functions includes removing waste from the body and controlling the body’s water balance. They not only flush harmful toxins from our bodies, but also releases all the necessary hormones that regulates the blood pressure and oxygen. It also keeps the balance of certain chemicals (potassium, salts and acids) in the body. In addition, the kidney produce hormones that help in the perfect functioning of other organs.

Healthy kidneys normally keep blood cells in the body and filter wastes from the blood through the urine, but when the filter has been damaged , blood cells can begin to “leak” out into the urine. In addition to signaling kidney disease, blood in the urine may indicate tumors, kidney stones or infections.
Have foamy urine
Excessive bubbles in the urine – especially those that require you to flush several times before they go-show protein in the urine. This foam may look like the foam that you see when you make scramble eggs, a common protein found in urine, albumin, is the same protein found in eggs.
Experiencing persistent swelling around your eyes.
Protein in the urine is an early sign that the kidneys filter has been broken, allowing protein to leak into the urine. This swelling around the eyes can be caused by the fact that your kidneys leak large amounts of protein in the urine, rather than keeping it in the body.
Ankle and leg swollen
Decreased kidney function can cause sodium retention, causing swelling in the legs and ankles. Swelling of the lower extremities can also be a sign of heart disease, liver disease and chronic venous leg problems.
No or Poor Appetite
This is a very common symptom, but the accumulation of toxins resulting from reduced renal function may be one cause.
Your muscles are cramping
Electrolyte imbalance can result from impaired renal function. For example, low calcium and phosphorus poorly controlled can cause muscle cramps.
Tips for Maintaining kidney health
• Eat a balanced diet such as fish, meat, beans, nuts, poultry, low-fat dairy and healthy fats to keep your blood pressure
• Drink 6-8 glasses of water every day to improve the health of your kidneys
• Reduce salt intake
• Stop drinking alcohol
• Exercise for 30 minutes every day to control blood pressure and obesity
• Stop smoking tobacco it restricts blood vessels making the kidney weak
• 7-8 hours proper sleep daily is a necessity to have a healthy kidney
• Keep your body active so that your kidney may remain healthy
